Town Hall: How to Speak to City Hall
Tuesday November 3, 5pm – 7pm
Carnegie Community Centre Theatre, 401 Main Free
Last December, Vancouver City Council listened to 169 speakers, mostly from the Downtown Eastside (DTES), who opposed the City’s plan to rezone the heart of the DTES for 32-storey market rental towers, while ignoring homelessness. All 169 speakers opposed the plan. Most were eloquent in defending their community and calling for what the community needs. Many were first-time speakers. How does it feel to speak at council? How does it feel when the council ignores you, and what can you do about it? This event will showcase a few speeches and a panel of speakers to answer these questions. Presented by the Carnegie Housing Project. Refreshments provided.
