“The hood is like me—lots of warts, pimples and a rough exterior with a slight hint of danger. But if one cares to look—a place of complexities. Danger and excitement abound, but (an) oasis of love and warmth are here. Neighbour helping neighbour, acts of charity and kindness are everywhere. All one has to do is look.”

Peter Gojevic, Storytellers from the Downtown Eastside presented by the DTES Neighbourhood House

Since the “Getcha Message Out!” workshops in February 2007 at the Carnegie Community Centre, FearlessTV has broadcast over thirty hours of programs to 660,000 cable subscribers about the news, views, arts and issues originating from the residents of the Downtown Eastside. Produced entirely by volunteers and organized by ACCESS-TV (Association of Chinese Canadians for Equality and Solidarity Society), FearlessTV looks forward to its continuing development within the Community Television Cluster of the W2 Community Media Arts Society. W2 will soon be operating a multi-purpose multi-platform media arts centre in the historic Woodward’s building.

FearlessTV thanks the DTES Community Arts Network, Vancouver Moving Theatre, Downtown Eastside Residents’ Association, Chinese Canadian National Council and the many groups and individuals supporting arts and activism in the Downtown Eastside. An especially big thank you to those wonderful volunteers in front and behind the cameras. It’s a committed cast and crew who make FearlessTV possible.

On Thursday November 5, come to a brief presentation on community television access and public participation. All citizens can exercise their entitlement to training and access provided by the public trust of community broadcasting. Find out more! Hosted by the Community Television Cluster, it begins at 7pm at the W2 Perel Gallery at 112 W. Hastings. Followed by a meet and greet.

If you are fearless, this is your TV!
