Khac Chi Bamboo Music has set out to bring their traditional music to western audiences in ways they can appreciate and enjoy. For Khac Chi this has meant coming up with lively new arrangements of Vietnamese traditional, folk and contemporary tunes. REDISCOVERY:
a night of performances and shamanic ritual
Friday October 30, 7pm-10pm
Gallery Gachet, 88 E. Cordova

Julie Parrell and Shannon Rayne come together for a night of performance that combines different perspectives on addiction. Rediscovery obliterates the lines between audience and participant, poetry and rediscovery, shamanic ritual and performance art so that the line between addictions and healing is burned away. The audience is welcome to participate in the first half of the evening, although participation is not necessary for the enjoyment of the evening. Following a brief intermission there will be an intimate performance of work featured in the Re/Dis/Covery art exhibit. For more information visit www.gachet.org or call 604-687-2468. Free

Showcase
The Downtown Eastside Music Theatre Showcase:
Thirty Songs from Seven Productions
Friday October 30,8pm
also
Wednesday October 28, 8pm
Russian Hall, 600 Campbell
Welcome to the Downtown Eastside Music Theatre Showcase, a celebration of thirty original songs from seven productions created for, by, and with the DTES. Musical Director Neil Weisensel is joined by a stellar group of musicians including Karen Graves, Jason Nichol, Steve Maddock, Beverly Dobrinsky and community members Corinthian Clark, Dalannah Gail Bowen, Jason Logan, Mike Richter, and many, many more.

The Downtown Eastside community is taking the initiative to define who we are, what we need and where we are going. We’re proud of our plays, proud of our stories and songs, and proud of all the hundreds of artists and community members who’ve brought them to life. Inspired by Downtown Eastside stories of “struggle and loss, of celebration and perseverance,” these plays are born out of a community of caring that struggles with marginalization, offers sanctuary, resists de-humanizing forces.

Vancouver Moving Theatre produces this feature performance in partnership with the DTES Heart of the City Festival and with the support of the City of Vancouver Great Beginnings program. Sliding scale admission $0-10 at the door
