Digital Stories
UNSUNG HEROES OF THE FOUR CORNERS
Thursday October 29, 2pm-5pm
Carnegie Community Centre
3rd floor Learning Centre, 401 Main

Since February 2008 a group of seniors have been producing digital stories about themselves and mentoring others through the process. Digital storytelling is a layering of pictures, voice recording, music and just about whatever else you want to use to tell your story. “Unsung Heroes” is a collection of the most recent digital stories; highlighting the stories of people we may see every day but not know their story. After the screenings, mentors Adrienne, Bob and Karenza will lead a workshop session to plant seeds for the next step of the project. The SHIRE Project (Seniors Housing and Isolation Response Experience) is a collaboration of the Carnegie Community Centre and the Carnegie Learning Centre (Capilano University) and is funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Program. Everyone welcome. Free

7pm-10pm Join your neighbours to celebrate the Festival
Chapel Arts, 304 Dunlevy

The presence of children in our community is the focus of this show of photo works by students from grades 4 to 7. Photographer and lead artist Anne Marie Slater collaborated with the students on an interpretive walk of Princess Avenue and their photographs reveal the sky, the street, and the industrial side of Hastings Street re-linking the historic north/south connection to the waterfront. The perspectives of inner city children are captured in photo stories and audio recordings, on view in the main gallery and in projections on the outside of Chapel Arts. Children Live Dream Here: Urban Landscapes is a community arts initiative with the participation of local organizations, community members and the support of the Festival and the City of Vancouver Great Beginnings program. Sponsored by Strathcona Elementary School, Strathcona Community Centre Association and Chapel Arts, with funding from Port Metro Vancouver and Telus-Vancouver Community Board. Free

Thursday October 29, 9pm-10pm
Live Broadcast Co-op Radio CFRO 102.7FM

Jack Benny Live at the Pantages—an original radio play written by Jason Logan and directed by Jay Hamburger, was first aired on Co-op Radio in November 2003. Originally co-produced by the Carnegie Theatre Workshop and Theatre in the Raw to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Carnegie Community, this radio play takes place in 1953, when the famous comedian Jack Benny has a dream that leads him to travel through time. Jack dreams that he performs at the historic Pantages Theatre on East Hastings, which is still standing today. He meets various well-known characters as he takes a fascinating journey through the Downtown Eastside. A radio play not to be missed! For your listening pleasure.
