“…more shameless promotion of our friends and community!”

FearlessTV is transitioning into W2TV, premiering with two community television specials broadcast in support of the 2010 Heart Of the City Festival. The programs will be Downtown Eastside-focused and feature a mix of activists and performances from past and present Festivals and other local venues. The premiere broadcast is on Sunday and repeated throughout the week.

Initiated with the “Getcha Message Out!” workshops in February 2007 at the Carnegie Community Centre, FearlessTV has broadcast thirty-eight hours of programs to 660,000 cable subscribers about the people, places, news and views originating from the residents of the Downtown Eastside. Production was entirely by volunteers and organised by ACCESS-TV (Association of Chinese Canadians for Equality and Solidarity Society).

W2TV is a program of the W2 Community Media Arts Society and a foundation program in the new multi-platform media centre in the historic Woodward’s building. To learn more about W2TV go to: W2TV@creativetechnology.org, or attend W2 Media Makers’ Workshop on Wednesday November 3, 7pm-8pm in the W2 Woodward’s Meeting room. The workshop will introduce community television production opportunities and tour W2’s new community TV studio being created in the basement of Woodward’s. See November 3rd for more information.

W2TV and FearlessTV thank the DTES Community Arts Network, Vancouver Moving Theatre, Chinese Canadian National Council, ACCESS-TV and the many groups and individuals supporting arts and activism in the Downtown Eastside. An especially big thank you to those wonderful volunteers in front and behind the cameras. It’s a committed cast and crew who make community television from the DTES possible.

AHA MEDIA and social media coverage of the Festival

The Festival is thrilled to partner with the Downtown Eastside’s AHA Media to provide social media coverage (video/photos/blog) of the Heart of the City Festival.
AHA Media gives voice to the local community and provides services for individuals and organizations to share their news and special events on a broader scale through social media.
Founded in 2008 by local artists April Smith, Hendrik Beune and Al Tkatch, AHA Media previously collaborated with Fearless City Media and has an ongoing working relationship with W2 Community Media Arts and various other organizations and individuals in the DTES community.

The members of AHA Media describe themselves as “definitely not mainstream media.” Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, their style is described as non-invasive and unassuming.
Say hello to AHA Media as they visit the Festival events. They’ll be happy to chat with you.
