VELVET LIGHT TRAP
November 9 to December 8
The InterUrban Gallery will host Alex MacKenzie’s Velvet Light Trap as part of Intersection. In conjunction with Projections and a core group of youth, Alex will deliver a series of workshops leading up to and through the Intersection installation. The installation will explore classical film optic tricks and light manipulations - engaging with the history and motivations of the moving-image medium. The work emerging from these workshops will inform the Velvet Light Trap installation at the InterUrban Gallery. A second stream of workshops will run as part of the installation and will focus on more thematic and technical explorations of film production. The latter workshops will be open to the community. For more information, please visit www.projectionsyouth.com.

EVERYBODY IS SOMEBODY
Saturday December 8, 3pm - 10pm
Pigeon Park, Carroll & W. Hastings
For the grand finalé of Intersection, video artist Paul Wong will add to the mix a new work created especially for projection on the historic site of the Mercantile Bank building. To create an inclusive seasonal event for the people of the Downtown Eastside, the participating artists will explore a new kind of event-based, people-oriented public art. Businesses in the area are being invited to stay open late to join the fun and help light up the streets at a dark time of year.
Intersection is presented by Centre A, InterUrban Gallery and Projections, with partners PHS Community Services, Intersection Media and Radix Theatre. Core funding through Infinity Features, City of Vancouver, ArtsNow, Canada Council for the Arts and British Columbia Arts Council.
