DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS, ALMUERZO, PROCESIÓN Y FIESTA

En el Centro Este de Vancouver, los latinoamericanos celebramos el Día de los Muertos con humor y mucha alegría. Hacemos una fiesta a la cual invitamos a nuestros muertos a que se nos unan antes de regresar al otro lado. Queremos invitarles a que ustedes tambien se unan a esta celebración a partir de la 1:20 de la tarde en el salón de la Iglesia “St. James” que se encuentra en la esquina de las calles Gore y Cordova. Traigan flores, fotografias de sus seres queridos para poner en el altar. Empezaremos con una pellicula a la 1:20 de la organización Amnistia Internacional que se llama “Justicia sin Fronteras” que dura aproximadamente 35 minutos y en la cual se demuestra las atrocidades cometidas por los gobiernos en contra de sus propios ciudadanos y las organizaciones que han tomado el liderazgo en luchar contra estas injusticias. Durante la pelicula Watari Research Association y sus voluntarios les invitan a degustar un delicioso almuerzo; después vamos celebrar con musica y como invitados especiales tendremos al Mariachi Mexico de Vancouver, Michell Goycochea con musica andina y nuestra querida Isabel Ramirez deleitandonos con su voz, su baile y su alegria, tambien tendremos piñatas y mucho más. Venga a divertirse con nuestros cómicos, satíricos anfitriones Mamá Muerte y el Doctor Enema. Haremos una procesión en la cual estaremos recordando a quienes han muerto en estas calles, a las 5:00 de la tarde. La admisión es completamente gratis. ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ Les esperamos!!!!!

In the Downtown Eastside, Latin Americans celebrate Day Of The Dead with pageantry, music, love and humour. We throw a party and invite the dead to join us for a few hours before returning to “the other side.” Join us at 1:20pm for Justice Without Borders (35 min), a film with a hard-hitting look at the atrocities committed by governments against their own people and the movement to bring justice to these people. Following the film, Watari Research Association and volunteers invite you to a spicy and savory lunch at 2pm in the St. James’ Anglican Church hall at Cordova and Gore, followed at 3pm by a musical fiesta with folklorista Isabel Ramirez, musician Michel Goycochea and Mariachi Mexico de Vancouver, ending with piñatas. Your hosts for the fiesta are Lady Die and Dr. Enema. Bring flowers, photographs, something for the ofrenda (altar), noisemakers, musical instruments. At 5pm the Carnival Band will lead us on a parade through the DTES to honour the lives lost on these streets returning to St James’ for the All Saints Day Mass. Everyone welcome. Admission free; donations to Watari gratefully accepted.

Following the Day of the Dead procession, St. James’ will celebrate All Saints Day to honour all the saints, known and unknown. The St James’ High Mass Choir, under the direction of Gerald Harder, will sing music including Missa l’hora passa by Ludovico da Viadana. Everyone welcome
